What are the differences between voltage transformers and current transformers in use?

Voltage transformers must not be short-circuited on the secondary side during use, as a short circuit will cause excessive secondary current, potentially burning out the transformer. Current transformers must not be open-circuited on the secondary side, otherwise a high voltage will be generated on the secondary side, endangering equipment and personnel. In addition, the primary side of the voltage transformer is connected in parallel to the circuit under test, while the primary side of the current transformer is connected in series to the circuit under test.
